Arjan F. Tervoort Bashocho
Mugai Ryu Amsterdam, Haarlem
Since his introduction to judo at a local dojo at the age of 8, Arjan F. Tervoort has never stopped training Japanese budo. (Judo, Ninpo
Bujutsu, Aikido, Kyudo, Roppokai Daito ryu Aikijujutsu and some others).
For 11 years during his adolscent years Arjan trained Ninpo Bujutsu (an offshoot of Hatsumi-sensei’s Bujinkan) At the age of 16 Arjan
began studying Zazen at several zendo in Holland, practicing both Rinzai as Meazumi-Roshi’s Soto-Rinzai-line.
Arjan started studying Hatakeyama-ha and Otake-ha Katori Shinto ryu with Erik Louw at the age of 19.
Arjan visited Japan twice for a month to train budo and to attend zazenkai at both Engakuji and his friend Fujita Issho’s zendo.
Before Hatakeyama-sensei passed away Arjan received Mokuroku in Hatakeyama-ha.
Recently Arjan has started his training in Aikido again and started studying Urasenke Chado (tea ceremony) at Herman Somsem in the Netherlands.
“Because budo has been with me from even before I can remember, I find it hard to imagine a time where I won’t study and train any martial art.
I always try to keep an open heart for other styles and try to find common ground as well as specifics to each style, while always maintaining the teachings in their original form.
I feel that form is the container to keep the ever flowing nature of things preserved for coming generations.”
